Amira Hassan is a counselling psychologist and a member of Just Psychology's Advisory Group. She has more than 30 years experience of working in the mental health field. For the last ten years she worked with children and families within Alder Hey Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Liverpool.

In March 2012 Amira took up a position as Senior Paediatric Psychologist, and Head of Psychology Service at Hamad Medical Corporation in Doha, Qatar. Despite the miles between Qatar and the North West, she remains an active member of Just Psychology's Advisory Group in a mentoring role.
Amira has particular interest in the impact of migration on parenting and family functioning. This includes the impact of migration on parenting beliefs and attachment practices; and acculturative stress as a risk factor for psychological difficulties in both children and adults.

Amira is a strong advocate for the utilisation of community psychology approaches particularly when addressing the mental health needs of Black and minority ethnic populations. Amira led an innovative community psychology project aiming to improve relationships between Black and Muslims fathers and their sons. She also had a lead role in the development and the delivery of a community based therapeutic group for refugee mothers and their babies.

Amira is a chartered member of the British Psychological Society and is registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Professions Council (Registration No: PYL24773)
